It's more likely that you're implementing the "advanced plays" the wrong way, at the wrong time, or against the wrong person than it is that advanced plays wont work at 10NL.
If you're talking about getting into a leveling war with somebody that's not even sure if a flush beats a straight you're right, but you can still take very non-standard lines and rake in the monies against complete idiots.
It's all about hand ranges imo. Think about them lots and you'll get a lot better.
