Both players above have pretty much hit the nail on the head. In dealt method, the rake is split between every player at the table regardless if they see a flop or not. Contributed means only players that contribute to the pot get a portion of the rake considered. If you play Full Ring, you really want Dealt method because you can play nitty and keep collecting rakeback the whole time, but shorthanded play you would prefer contributed more often.
