Wow, those really suck especially against the same player. I'll bet you have a note on that guy ![]() I am beginning to wonder if shoving AK preflop is really +EV (I do it but its not something I like to do): - you are a huge dog against AA KK - coinflipping with any pair - bad beats against K5 and others - do people fold enough preflop to make it beneficial? |

1) OP probably knows that villian is a fish who will stack off with a lot of hands which are crushed/behind his AK so he knows KK,AA are only a small proportion of the hands he's getting called by. 2) By shoving he also maximises his fold equity as a lot of medium to smaller pocket pairs are forced to fold. Besides he already has some $ invested in the pot so being in a coinflip situation can't be -ev. 3) The chance of a bad beat isn't a reason not to make a certain decision. This kinda relates to the first point. Villain is getting it in as a big underdog a high % of the time so shoving AK against him is obviously +ev as 80% of the time OP takes his stack. I do agree that against a lot of players shoving AK like this may not be profitable but against opponents like this it would be. Knowing what situations to do it is the key. I for example at times don't shove AK when in hindsight I realise that it's what i should've done. Btw, that 1st hand absolutely sickens me to the core, bad luck man. |
