I always thought u shud play tight live and just wait for good hands as they don't really take notice. If u r gna make this move, bet the flop and see what he does then, there just isnt enuf info atm and a set of 7's looks likely.

I think this is pretty terrible all around. I don't know why you'd raise this in MP at a live full ring table. And I know that standard preflop raises in live games are bigger, but 10x seems pretty excessive. I'd cbet the flop. Your draw is pretty worthless, so you basically have air here. I'd check the turn, but if I bet, I wouldn't bet less than 1/3 pot. Once you're minraised, I can't understand doing anything other than folding.

WOW!!!! Ok so Im glad everyone thinks this is bad... well not really cuz I dont agree... Game was getting extremely loose... There was a live straddle on so it wasnt 10x raise There was SB BB LS and Once Caller b4 me that equals $11 in the pot so a $20 raise really isnt much anything less then that and everyone is calling. which has been the way the table has been going. Player ended up being extremely weak with a naked 10 which is what I thought he had and felt I had tons of fold equity with my move cuz this is exactly how I would play a monster. How does anyone put him on a set of 7's considering that I hold a 7 in my hand? After taking awhile he finally said I guess its time for me to go home and called. I really felt my read was correct and if he called I still had outs. Thanks everyone for your comments. Oh and why I raised this is I was playing my image which I had an ubertight image at the table and everyone was giving me respect. I had won multiple pots by raising and taking it down right there. |

a typical live $1/2 game is vastly different from online. most of the time the only thing "iso" raising limpers accomplishes is building a huge multiway pot. most 1/2 players will play a hand they think is playable for $4 or $20. you do an iso raise for a couple of reasons: you have lots of fold equity and a good chance to either take down the pot uncontested or go to the flop heads up with position and initiative. combined with the potential to actually hit a hand, and the play becomes +EV, even with a suited connector. however, when your fold equity is greatly diminished, the play becomes borderline/bad. I would probably limp behind with your hand. from your description, the players play terribly post flop, which makes your implied odds huge, even with a fairly small pot on the flop. trying to bluff someone who can't fold, especially when you have an active, aggressive image, is terrible. the reason that these games are so profitable is because people call and raise with hands that are extremely subpar considering the action and the bet sizes compared to their stacks. they get pot committed with 2nd pair and end up stacking off with incredibly weak hands. |
