Default Optimal monitor size for multitabling

I am thinking about buying a new monitor. This 15" old school monitor is no fun at all when multitabling.

I like the resolution to be 1024x768 or lower numbers. I guess down the road, it would be nice to be able to 6 table with no overlap (I play 2-3 tables now typicall but makes sense to invest for the future). I play on the cake poker network; does anyone know how large of a monitor I would need? It seems like some kind of widescreen monitor is going to be best (but maybe not) because it seems like the overlap problem is usually horizontal, not vertical.

It all depends on resolution (and preference). Honestly 1024 x 768 is small. I have two 1900x1200 (26 inches) I use and i love it. Obviously this is a little extreme. But I suggest to get a 22-24inch monitor. 1600 x 1200 should be plenty to 3 table, but if you want to upgrade in the future, geting 1900x1200 shouldnt hurt.

I've paid for both my monitors strictly from my poker earnings, and they have paid for itself in no time. It is also very practical when working on word documents to have that extra desktop space.

I play up to 16tables on a 26inch monitor. (4 tables in each corner)

Do you mind posting a screen shot? I presume resolution is 1900 by 1200?? I'm also curious as to see how it layouts.

I'm using a 24" monitor with 1920x1200 resolution and I think it's great for 9 tables without overlap and still plenty of space for HUD...

I have an old picture of playing 9 tables... I am using different card mod nowadays but otherwise that's the same. If I want to 12-table I'll use different MiniMaxMod layout (426x338) so I can easily fit 12 tables. The smaller layout looks something like this on my laptop. Awwwww that card mod was U G L Y! The very first table mod I had, iirc.

When I was upgrading my monitor I was making a decision beetween dual 22" setup and single high-res 22-26" one... The main reason for going with one monitor seems to be that 2 monitors look ugly imo... and I think they are less usable in most cases. For example, if you don't have good TV or projector and you plan on watching movies from your computer, I would certainly recommend going with one high-res widescreen.

Hmm..
1900 x 1200 on a 24" monitor
so that would look similar in physical size, just a little bit larger, than 1280x960 on a 15" monitor, right?

24" is 60% more monitor (24-15)/15 = 0.6
1900-1280/1280 48.43% more in horizontal pixels
1200-960/960 53.13% more in vertical pixels

So the 60% bigger in size can more than absorb the display without looking smaller..

Is that math about correct. Maybe I am a little bit off because I am compaying the hypotenuse of a triangle to the legs of the triangle. Yea, I think that would mess up my math a little bit.

1024x768 on a 15" CRT is painful. I was using 1024x768 on a 19" CRT so I feel your pain.

But don't worry about resolutions for LCD, just get the biggest screen size you can fit into your budget/desktop.

Monitors have a native resolution and you want to keep it at that, or else things get fuzzy. Don't worry about letters being too small with a high resolution like on CRT monitors. LCD's use a native resolution that's easy to see. It's the resolution equivalent of 800x600 on a 15" CRT or 1024x768 on a 17" CRT more or less.

If you're looking to do 6 tables, 24"+ would be nice.

But I just recently bought my LCD, and if you decide to go with 22", consider Dell 2209WA, BenQ E2200HD, Samsung T220, or LG L227WTG. These are all good general usage to high speed gaming monitors. They're all about $300. And it's possible to 6 table on a 22". If you can work with 1024x768 on a 15" CRT, you can do 6 table on a 22" LCD.

Resolution is very important for me. I have a 22" but with 1920 x 1080 resolution and it works excellent. Less resolution things just aren't as clear.

For 6 tables, 1280x1024 would certainly be enough... I have 24" with 1920x1200 and as you can see from the shots in my previous posts, 9 tables fit easily in it and the tables are very clear and have enough space for stats. With that ultramini layout I could have up to 15 tables without overlay and it's still playable.

Some clients, like FTP's, get a little fuzzy when they are small tho. If you want to scale them to be really small (like 9 tables with resolution lower than 1920x1200) you'd probably need a mod that changes the fonts and cards to more readable.
