Default Yet another AK-stuff question

Hi everyone,

would be nice to hear some thoughts about playing AK preflop, there were tons of discussions I guess, if you have a link where my question is covered please don't hesitate and post it here.

Imagine a player open-raises, and you are on AK (obv). You have a read, or suspicion/feeling/whatever, that for some reason his 4betting range is KK/AA/rare QQ/rare AKs. Plus his fold-to-3bet is ridiculously high. The question is what's the point in 3betting? Do you call it even OOP then? If you 3bet anyway, are you planning to fold if he 4bets?

Maybe I can rephrase my question like this: when and why do you fold AK pre (vs a single villain) after investing some bets (raise, 3bet, 4bet etc), and don't you think there is a better way to play it in those spots?

Thx

I never fold AK pre. If I 3bet I'm willing to go broke, but I call with AK vs some opponents (yes, even oop).

I always 3 bet any raise with AK......... you will get so many folds its rediculous ...... even if raised I like to see a flop and will push with a ace flop.

@ Mojo: If ppl fold a lot to 3bet you should 3bet rubbish hands and not AK. We want to get value with AK and not just 4.5BB... if we play vs A8 and a A hits the flop, we get A LOT of value.

@Pod: No, I wanted to say: Vs some opponents I just flat AK (ppl who fold a lot vs 3bets and basically never call or raise /w dominated hands), but vs most other villains I 3bet and get it in vs a 4bet.
If I had villains, who call a lot of 3bets and only 4bet KK and AA I could think of a 3bet/fold with AK, but I don't know these villains ^^

yah flatting. I dont mine taking down a pot pre either. Its free money. AK is not such a great hand after the flop when you air it. You have no clue where you are at in the hand. So If I dont hit I prob would fold.

I can't come up with math about it, but if you call a 4bet, hit an A, and got action it's likely you're beat, or splitting with AK. If, in that spot, you can put enough AK(or AQ) into villain's range, then it is an easy shove pre I guess. Same thing about villains who 4bet you with QQ/JJ/KK and stack-off on A-high flop UI: I beleive they are aggro enough to make shoving pre profitable.

but you will miss the flop often, especially cause off blocking-issues. I wonder how can this be profitable, maybe you have a decent hands sample that proves your line is good?

I would like to see other comments on this flatting 4bets with AK, cause it's tempting for me to do it sometimes, but logically I cannot find proper gound for it.

I don't like calling a 4bet /w AK unless you think your opponents 4bets rly light, you are like 200BB deep or some fish called the 3bet and you want him to come along.

Calling a 3bet is a diffrent thing and I like doing that ip.
