Wow. I just finished Neon Genesis Evangelion and I simply cannot believe that it is super popular in Japan! Are Japanese as a nation as a whole a bunch of introverted sci-fi nerds?? The last two episodes were a pile of total existentialist nonsense from beginning to end!! This is unbelievable!! I almost wish I was born in Japan, if only they didn't have that stupid censorship law...

Enjoyed the gloomy and kind of genuine temperately serious atmosphere, and I continue to be amazed by some of the elaborate absurdity these almondeyes consistently come up with (I was in tears when the penguin made its first appearance in the bathroom... hated the existentialist nonsense though). There is not enough syrrealism in the world.

After they published those last two episodes, the Japanese fans were at the studio threatening to burn it down and kill him if he didn't make new endings. He created 2x movies known as Death and Rebirth or End of Evangelion. Make sure you watch them.

I actually just started watching Eva with my girlfriend a few days ago. It's decent, but I wasn't thrilled about it the first watch though. I originally watched it with a friend though and we watched it all in like a day or two.

I wasn't sure what to start watching next, so I found a small 13 episode anime called King of Bandit Jing. It's ok, but nothing spectacular. I'm not even sure I'll finish it if I can find something else that peaks my interest.

Hahaha okay, makes a bit more sense this way.

That instrumentality project thing reminded me strongly of Code Geass. Is it some sort of common element in Japanese sci fi, or did code Geass just rip off Eva?

Eva was the foundation for most Mech anime in Japan. You will see "Angels" show up in a ton of animes, you will see a lot of the same Eva mech themes throughout all Mech anime. Eva is one of the required watches for anime fans because it has done so much for anime since it was released.

Eva was brilliant. Though very messed up anime .. I remember the first time I watched it, I sat through the entire series and the movies in one sitting .. Not a good thing, especially for when I finally went to sleep .. Yikes!

it was in 1996....you have to take it in context...

yeah the end is messed up...but that's part of why it's famous, got otakus talking all over the net about their own interpretations...

WOW!!! This week's episode (#5) of Hajime No Ippo was really good. It's got me pumped for the series. I'm not sure, but something about it was just awesome.
