Default Anime Recommendations

As I did with the TV Shows threads, I am a big fan of anime as well. I'll be one of the first people to say I made fun of people that watched anime. LOLZ at cartoon shows, right? Then I started watching them like 2-3 years ago because some of my friends did and I was hooked. If you have never watched anime, it's nothing like you would think. There are so many different genres of anime, it's literally like watching a TV show, but imagine how much more they can do with it because they aren't stuck with actors. The story lines are better than Lost and Heroes and there is so much of it that you'll never be bored.

If anyone wants to ask for some new anime to watch or recommend some to me, please do so. Here's my list of favorite animes ever. BTW, this is very hard to put in order, but I'll try.

Hunter x Hunter
Death Note
Scrapped Princess
Full Metal Alchemist
Naruto
Hikaru No Go

I've watched infinite more, but I think that's my list of best ones so far. I'm about to watch Monster, I'll try to do a review of it when I'm done, I've heard it's great.

If you have never watched anime before, PLEASE tell me what type of shows you are interested in and watch 1 or 2 animes that I recommend before discarding them forever. A great one to start is Death Note because it's so damn good and isn't childish at all. If you are more into fighting and action a great one to start with is Cowboy Bebop though there are many better ones, it's a good introduction to anime.

Although I am not into anime myself, my 16 yr old son is a huge anime fan. I just never could get into the frame of mind for it. He has a preference for:

Black Cat
Naruto Shippuuden
Full Metal Alchemist
Naturo
Death Note
Bleach
and one that is not really popular here called Fujima No Tsukaima(sp?)

It is funny to find someone speaking about anime in this forum, but as I'm a big fan myself (I even study Japanology at the University of Hamburg, watching Anime now in the best synchro ever - the japanese original-) I like to post some series I do really like.

Death Note is definitly one of the best series ever made, even the japanese think so

If u like Anime u have to watch these:

Berserk
(this is REALLY a.ss kicking. I've spent MUCH money to get the manga, which are pretty rare in the German version (No 20 e.g. round about 220$) just to see how the story goes on, as the anime has only 1 season, which is pretty disappointing)
Trinity Blood
Basilisk
Bleach
Samurai Champloo
Black Blood Brothers
D. Grey Man
Vision of Escaflowne
Ghost In the Shell Movies I+II
Cowboy BeBop Movie
...

I never exspected another person on this planet loving both poker and anime...strange combination, isnt it?

Berserk - I have seen this anime, but I was so disappointed that it ended when it did.
Trinity Blood - I'll have to check this out
Basilisk - I'll check this out too
Bleach - I watched like 10 episodes, but I'm not a big fan of watching animes before they are finished, so I haven't kept watching. Plus it's just a monster anime and I just finished Naruto and am not ready to watch another anime that long.
Samurai Champloo - This was a pretty solid anime, I enjoyed it, though I've seen better.
Black Blood Brothers - I think I've heard about this, but haven't seen it yet.
D. Grey Man - Never heard of this anywhere, I'll see what I can find out about it
Vision of Escaflowne - Same as D. Grey Man
Ghost in the Shell - Should I watch the animes before the movies or what????
Cowboy Bebop - I've seen the anime and the movie, they were pretty great.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I'll definitely have some to watch.

For Berserk - Yeah, it sucks that this series will never be finished, but nevertheless it is one of my favourites. The atmosphere and the storyline are just great...and u can read the manga to continue the story (which is not finished yet)
Bleach - I just started to watch it, but i think its pretty cool. Dont know if I will ever see all the 165+ Episodes
Ghost in the Shell - as for the most Movie vs. Series situations, u can watch first whatever u like. The movies have an own storyline and u will get introduced to the characters even if u didnt see the series yet. Movie 1 is kinda old-school...i think it's produced in the 1980s, but it's still worth it.

Edit// I just watched the first two episodes of Scrapped Princess...amazing series so far...the optimal mix of humor, action, great characters and a pretty decent storyline...I love it.

Let me know what you think of Scrapped Princess it's by far one of my favorites and it's ranked really high in this list that I use a lot.

I just watched what has been released of Naruto Shippuuden. I normally try to avoid watching animes before they are complete, but damn this show is fantastic. I can't wait for more episodes to come out.

I also started watching one called Get Backers, it is really cliche so far, but overall pretty solid. I'll probably finish it unlike a bunch of other ones recently.

I started watching Trinity Blood and it seemed good, but the version I was watching had really annoying subtitles to read and I couldn't keep going. Maybe I'll try to find a new version.

I watched the whole series of Scrapped Princess in like 4 days or so because it was such an amazing, well drawn and interesting storyline I could'nt stop until the end. I'm glad to got the hint here because I never heard of it anywhere else so far.

By now I'm watching Hunter x Hunter which reminds me of the Robin Hood Anime which I loved when I was about 5 years old lol. Even though Hunter x Hunter's not really an adult or hyper-action-cgi-whatever anime I quite like it for good characters an interesting story.

But as you asked for something new I just remembered a series, which actually ranges in my favourite Top3 of the best Anime ever, but I kind of forgot to mention it, because I watched it like 2 years ago:

GUNGRAVE

Seriously...Grungrave absolutely kicks ass. I would say the story is on the same decent level as Death Notes, taking place both in the past and a not so far away future and with maybe the best characters I've seen so far in an anime. If you didn't watch it so far, please do it...just because you won't find anything so exciting in that anime genre.

I'll check out GunGrave, I've heard other good things about it too. BTW, Hunter X Hunter starts off really slow, but once you get into it, the character development is amazing and you can't stop watching. Trust me on this one.
