PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (2 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com Hero (Button) ($50) SB ($83.95) Preflop: Hero is Button with Q , 4![]() Hero raises to $1.50, SB calls $1 Flop: ($3) K , 7 , 2 (2 players)SB checks, Hero bets $1.75, SB calls $1.75 Turn: ($6.50) 8 (2 players)SB checks, Hero checks River: ($6.50) Q (2 players)SB bets $4.75, Hero ? This is the 2nd hand, villain is completely unknown. When do you call his riverbet? I mean the flop is really dry so I think he has Kx here a bunch of the time but what if the board was more drawy or I had a stronger queen? His betsizing also looks a little bluffy to me because there aren't that many queens in my range and he should try to get value, no? |

Actually, almost all of the top players advocate playing a solid 'general' strategy early in a HU match. If the guy starts folding a ton of his blinds to your BTN opens, you can start opening hands like Q4 profitably. As this is early in the match, with no reads and dynamic created, opening here is WAYYYY -EV.

q4 beats a ton of hands in HU, i am always raising this. only time im folding this on the button is if villain is overagro. In the beginning of a match you should be raising every button to see how he reacts and see how tight he is. After a couple button raises, we can adjust our opens accordingly. calling here with 2nd pair is pretty standard in heads up. Villain's range on hands we beat that play this way is > the hands we lose to. And we are getting over 2:1 on our money. |
