Default Chose an unusual line...

Played with villain for about 15min. He was on 3 of my 3 tables and seemed to play a standart preflop game. He defended his blinds somewhat often with 3bets, called with medium strength hands like A8s, KTs as Blind and Button def.

Since this is one of the first times I just call his steal, I have no specific read for this situation, but he Cbets quite a bit and has an overall aggressiv mindset (but not over aggro).

At the moment I try to get out of my robot-like style and choose some unusual lines (that are hopefully not brutal spew).
Hand is played at Cake, so sry for not converting.

Just gimme your thoughts on my line and with what hands you would expect me to show up.
With what hands do you think villain could call here?

Definitely an unusual line. I've been staring at this hand for a long time and am still confused. Against a villain like this I'd expect you to be raising preflop and on the flop pretty wide, so you have an OOP float turned into a 3-street bluff or a 7???

so he flats A8s & KTs from the BB vs Button? And then what are you saying about the button defense- he flats BB 3 bets with those hands?

My guess on the hand- he called wiht A9. I would think that he would need overpair, set, or 7x to call there.

The line is interesting becuase as the button he can rep hititng that board a little bit better IMO but we are taking that away from him and donking out

If he's Bu and Co raises, then he calls with medium strength hands ip (and does not 3bet them... at least not all of them). Button def = defending your Bu vs the Co.

I think, we create quite a strange spot for him, cause we should be really pretty polarized here. Our hand looks like a 7 - and only a 7. But there shouldn't be thaaaat many 7s in our range, so basically he could call down even lighter than A9, cause it's pretty unlikely that we turn something like J9 into a bluff.
Since I 3bet him perviously, he shouldn't expect TT+ here in my range too often.
But how often am I choosing that strange line as a bluff, when I'm a somewhat solid player? And if I'm not bluffing here, he basically need the nuts to call us, cause my range is so strong...

I'm just thinking, what I would do in villains spot, if I had some kind of 9.

If you haven't been flatting oop much, you very well could take this line with a strong hand like JJ+. Taking this line, he can call on the turn quite lite imo as you really can't represent anything and he can call with A high here a lot. The overbet on the river will get raised by a 7, but that is unlikely and I think you can get a hand like A9 to call here or even possibly 88.

Yeah, that's what I hoped for... that my hand looks sooo strange, that he will look me up pretty light. He called the overbet /w 98o - I'm not sure, if that's too light or not.

In this case I had A7s, so it's somewhat easy to play. Would you like a line like this with A9 as well? Cause he can obviously call down pretty, pretty light - only prob is, that we block 9x combos and there are more 7x combos.

I certainly wouldn't take this line as a bluff..
I feel like he villain often talks himself into a hero-call here putting you on a missed draw.

I like your line w A7 there. c/R turn just looks way too strong & he's gonna c back turn a ton.

I think A9 would be too thin. I think lowest you could do this with is TT.

Is it better to check/raise A9 or TT on flop or check/call?
if we check/raise this flop with A9 or TT do we get it in? seems like villains 3betting range on flop like this is either big draws or hands that crush us. But his check/raise calling range should be so much wider & heavily weighter towards hands we beat.

Hm, yeah... A c/r /w A9 or TT+ looks quite good to me here as well. But if he is aggro, we might have to go broke here, since he might just 3bet shove all his draws... I'd have to stove it
