Default Pot controlling

Can someone explain pot controlling in detail? I understand the basics, but would like to know things like: when to do it, pros, con's, and any other relevant information.

Thanks

I am not the man to do it but almost all of the vids by trikkur and lol refer to pot control in the general scope, and why. I have found these really useful for the same reason you ask I guess.

My own personal opinion, and this is only one example of where I pot control is when i am in a way ahead/way behind situation but have a hand that may have showdown value. I am trying to exert pot control in these situations a lot, where as before I would donk bet blah blah blah and lose a ton. Still lose in some cases but lose a less now

A general description would be when you have a marginal hand in a smallish size pot and you deliberatly manipulate your bet size (or lack thereof) in order to keep the pot at a reasonable level. For example checking behind the turn w/ top pair against an opponent prone to check-raising - you have good showdown value and betting will escalate the pot w/ a hand that doesn't warrant it. Another example would be putting out a blocker bet on the river when you know he's not raising it and he himself would place a much larger bet out which you'd find difficult to call. This way you get to showdown cheaper and you've 'controlled' the pot size yourself.
