Default AKo

Ok, I suspect that there have been a million AK threads.

I noticed in my poker tracker stats that AKo is BY FAR my number one loser hand. If I had just dumped AKo every time, I'd be up 4 BIs. Funny enough, AKs is reverse that amount (about +3.75 BIs).

This is over ~15,000 hands which I realize isn't that big, but...

I've lost AK - AJ when we got it all in on an Axx flop. I feel good about that obviously.
But how do I tell the difference between an idiot shove with AJ on that board and a guy with a set?

It usually comes after I've 3Bet and got one caller. I hit A or K and felt it. Losing a lot here.

I would love to hear the secret to winning buyins by folding hands.

If your problem with AK is that you lose felting TPTK in 3bet pots, then I think it's just a sample size/variance issue that you shouldn't be worried about.

Mkay, next question
Just don't overanalyse small samples. You had AKo about 200 times and there were maybe 20 big pots within these 200 times, so there is just quite a lot of variance here.
On one limit (25k hands) I'm in the red /w AKo, too, but in my overall stats (140k hands) it's + 1ptBB/hand. (and that should be quite low, since I played quite a lot of FR)

Yes. 15K is small sample size, now you have -4 for AKo and AKs +3, but in reality it is only 2 % of winning between these 2 hands. Just consider this.

This is only true, if you get it in preflop.
If you play postflop, your suited AK can double barrel etc. more often, so you should win more than 2% more.

what i like to do if i am loosing with a hand that i feel i shouldnt be losing with is pull up all of the big loses and review those hands. You could also post the biggest ones here and let us review them. Most of the time it is just that you got coolered in a few really big pots. but it is always good to run through the big loses and see if you could have played them differently. I do this after every session and it has helped me a lot in finding leaks.

so take some time and post 6 or 7 of the biggest loses with AK and we will let you know if you are miss playing or if it is just standard variance.

Pretty much this... if you're losing a lot with AKo over 15k hands then you're most likely making some poor plays. 15k might not be a huge sample, but it's enough that AKo shouldn't be your biggest losing hand unless you're just getting coolered constantly with that hand (very possible).

So just look through the hands where you played a big pot with AKo and try to find mistakes. Probably best to focus on the hands you lost, but don't forget to look over big pots you won as well. Just because you won the hand doesn't mean you played it well.
