Hi, my first post here. This site is great. Love the videos! I hate short stacks. It only takes one to ruin the game. I wanted to get a couple of opinions of how you guys play against a short-stack limper when you have the button or cutoff. It's obvious you want to raise the short-stacked limper with your good hands, but what do you with your average hands. There's two group of hands I'm interested in: 1) Small pairs 22,33,44,55,66 2) Moderate broadway cards J10, Q10, QJ, etc Calling is obviously a weak play, and especially horrible for hands in category 2). So it's either iso-raise or fold. How many BB's does the limper need to have for you guys to consider iso-raising him with hands from category 1) and 2)? with small pp if he is an ep then i like to just limp behind him hoping that i will get action to my left. I never iso against a ss with a small pp. in order limp though you have to know that the table is loose/aggro enough that you will get raised by a full stack or get a couple other limpers. i will iso a lot more with the crappy broadway cards, just because they will fold often enough on the flop and play way too fast with average hands. if i get a small piece of the flop i am almost never folding to a shove by the ss as the will often shove with Ax and crappy gutshot draws and things. Shortstackers are annoying but at the micros you will not be able to get away from them, so you should figure out the best way for you to play them comfortably. My style can be higher variance, but it is profitable for me. |

Thanks for the responses guys. I can now see that isolating a short stack with a small pair is bad. I think I'll limp behind if he has at least 15 BB's and there are relatively passive players behind. Otherwise I'm going to fold. I also ran into trouble isolating very short stacks with hands like J10 and Q10 It always seemed like they would call my raise preflop and either check-call my flop cb or check-raise shove my cb. It was very difficult to get fold equity postflop against short stacks. I don't like limping behind with these of type of hands even on the button because it's difficult flop a strong hand because of kicker issues. So I think I will have to fold if they don't have at least 40 BB's, otherwise I can isolate. Last edited by FlushDaFish; 10-07-2008 at 12:34 AM. |
