Default my 3bet got cold flatted..

Villain was 18/14 w/ no 3bets on record (only 200 hand sample). Hadn't played any pots with him so no history. Don't know what to make of this.

I 3bet a little smaller preflop as the raiser had a 92% fold to 3bet over a 2.2k sample.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (5 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

UTG ($48.65)
Hero (MP) ($57.15)
Button ($11.45)
SB ($75.95)
BB ($71.70)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J, J
UTG bets $2.25, Hero raises to $7, 1 fold, SB calls $6.75, 2 folds

Flop: ($16.75) 8, 7, 5 (2 players)
SB bets $11, Hero..

I'd probably shove just because I'd expect him to CRAI with most better hands, but it's a close spot.

nasty spot IMO. I don't like shoving as only better is going to call us and sets are well within his range based on pf action. The only hands I can possibly expect to see a call from that we are ahead of here is TT. I think I flat and evaluate the turn leaning towards folding if he fires strong again.

IMO... Villain shows up with 99/TT a ton here, and sometimes just a retarded bluff with overcards.

Calling isn't good because he will often have pretty good equity with just overcards so we really want him to fold -- and he's not likely to donk/fold with 99 or TT so shoving for value is good against those hands. I'm never really planning on folding jacks here so I see no reason to let him see the turn on his terms.

I shoved for the reasons mentioned in here, he showed KK, but I'm still thinking it's +ev.

Made a note on him and moved on.

I figured at least some AA and KK would be in his range; I think that's why I thought it was closer than NOFX did.

Just for the record, I did agree that this was close and I don't take KK+ completely out of his range (though AA is much more likely than KK imo)... but overall I think you played this the most +EV way possible and were just unlucky that he decided to slowplay preflop.

I see no reason to 3bet the utg raise preflop.

Edit; So why do we 3bet there, that was kinda my point i guess.
