Default top two on straight board

My opponent is kinda laggy, 49/40/2 over 55 hands. I'm not sure what the min-3bet means but I think it could be alot of hands. A couple orbits earlier, he 3-bet my button open, but it was a pot-sized raise, not min, and I just folded.

I don't like how I played this hand because it just seemed so passive to call on the turn and river, but I wasn't sure what else to do. My thinking was, I could be good and I just need to get to showdown.

When he calls the flop raise, he has something. I think he could have had: a straight, a set, two pair, an overpair, or top pair + a straight draw; in which case, I'm about tied with that range. Pokerstove gives me 46% versus that range on the flop, and, counting hand combos, I got 49 I'm ahead of and 45 I'm behind.

I think calling down was the right thing, but it just seemed really weak. Comments?

Against this type of player on this board, I just raise his turn bet and take it from there. He could be doing this with his entire hand range, and most definately just an ace.
Don't give him the free river card.

Raise turn for value... probably raise river as well, but after you just call the turn it's closer to a call. I really hate calling on the turn.

[FLOP] I definitely 3bet more on the flop, to about ~$1, but I don't see him folding here with a pair and a straight draw, so fair enough.
[TURN] I might also 3bet this turn aswell, if he calls then it' a simple call on the river (depending on bet), but I'm happy to take down the pot right here if he folds, I don't like a call at all.
[RIVER] Screams blocking bet on the river, but I don't think he folds much to a 3bet here, calling is the safest option after just calling the turn.

What did he have in the end, set of tens or jacks?

Just becasue this guy is betting smallish doesn't mean he's weak; some people are like that. He did 3bet pre, call the flop raise, and then lead the turn for 1/2 pot in a rapidly growing pot. They smelled like suck bets but my hand's not too bad either. I definitely thought he had something good, with a range about like in the post.

I don't like raising the turn because that just folds all worse hands and only better call. Same for the river. So, even tho it's weird, I preferred calling down here, where there's still some chance, like 50/50, that my hand still wins.

I also didn't like raising the turn because that's just gonna get us all-in on the river, which he definitley seemed to want, and I don't want, because two pair is a small hand and we're deep.

In any case, that's what I was thinking, interesting hand. I appreciate everyone's comments. Always good to hear different opinions.

And, good read, 'twice', he had a set of tens.

On boards like this where you could be giving him a free card, I think you either need to play it "seriously" or give up and fold, and wait for a better spot.

If you think your two pair is good then bet it for real. If you get burned, oh well your read was wrong that time.

If you fold and he just had a king, bummer, you got bluffed.

I don't like playing two pair plus hands in the I'm not sure zone.

That's kinda true on the river, but it's not even close to true on the turn. Raise the turn for value because there are ridiculous number of hands he's going to b/c that are waaaay behind you.

Your flop raise size isn't nearly as bad as others are making it out to be.
