Default SS Villain open donk shoves 3x pot

Cake Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (3 handed) - Cake-Poker Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

BB ($20.55)
Hero (Button) ($54.35)
SB ($15.97)

Preflop: Hero is Button with A:diamond:, J:diamond:
Hero bets $3, 1 fold, BB calls $2.50

Flop: ($6.25) A:spade:, A:heart:, 10:spade: (2 players)
BB raises to $17.55 (All-In), Hero ???

I had played a bit of heads up vs the villain. The villain was a little bit trappy, liked to check call with a big hand. One time I fired the flop, villain calls, then villain hits the flush & checks behind. Trying to small ball steal vs the villain did not work very well. The villain slightly underestimated the power of the button in preflop heads up play (folded button a tiny bit too much IMO). We had not played very long but I did not see him 3 bet at all. WE had had very few showdowns except for the flush hand. One time, he showed up with pocket 3s on like a 9 JQ xx board; he min bet the 3s on 4th st.

Anyway, we have all see this open shove type of line before and so I just wanted to open up a discussion about this type of line in general..

Btw, my bet size is a little bit big because I was trying to test to see how bet sizing preflop affected the villain's actions. small ball blind stealing had not been working very well. I was trying the opposite- overbetting strong hands to extract value from an alleged overly passive villain (theory in testing). SB had just sat down so I was kinda messing around.

really? because of how he slow played the flush earlier in the session?

What kind of a range do you think does this?

So, what do you put him on that beats us? AT is the only hand I can think off. I think he'd be more likely to donkshove hands like gutshot+fd (or just bare FD) here, than full houses. TP+fd is also possible on that board, and in 3handed he should be calling you a lot with worse Axs hands.

I would never fold Ax here.

Seriously? You have trips with a good kicker, villain has less than half a stack, and you want to fold?

AT, AQ, AK all beat us and villain shoves 3x pot. Big blind would not raise these hands preflop most of the time, at these stakes.

I see this line more often when villain does not have an A or has a weak A and hopes you will fold. With AK/AQ/AT it is much more likely he will do min/gaybet or just check the flop to you hoping that you will bet.
Seriously, a shove looks like he wants you to fold right away, what means your AJ is good.
If he shows you stronger A or pocket TT well, so be it

40bb stack would certainly try to get it in pre with TT, AQ or AK.
