You completely butchered this one Preflop: Why did you 3bet ?? You should be flatting this 99-100% of the time. 3betting is not an option. You have a great opportunity to flop a set multiway and instead you turn your 77 into a bluff, force other players out of the pot with their weaker holdings and force most people in UTG's spot in a 4bet-or-fold decision. UTG is also a nit so his range is pretty strong to begin with - even more reason to just call and try to crack his big hands. Flop: once a 16/13 defends to a CO's 3bet after opening UTG and leads strong on this flop you are totally screwed so you should just fold. The absolute best scenario is that he has 2 overs and a flush draw and even that is coinflipping against you. Most of the time he'll just show up with a medium-high overpair. A couple of reasons for my actions. I'm by no means saying my play is right, but there was thinking behind it... Pre: At the time I had a pretty solid image on the table. I usually never 3bet 77 but this time it felt like a profitable spot to squeeze because of the mid pos call, so Im expecting UTG to fold a lot of times. If he decides to call I'll be playing in position, and if he raises I obviously ditch my hand. Flop: As he leads out on the flop Im expecting him to have QQ-99 or a FD+overs type of hand. My line is representing a really strong hand here so I'm also expecting a nit like him to fold 99-JJ, as there is fold equity. My push also needs to work about 40% of the time in order to be profitable... What if I flat this pre? I would face a tough situation on the flop as well then... |

Well preflop I wasnt really trying to push off a big pair. Just AQ/AJ/AT type of hands. Of course Im also pushing off his lower pairs which I'm not too excited about. But for me the question is in the turn, given how the hand was played. If I put his range on QQ-99, FD+overs after his turn bet, shoving just seems profitable if I think I'm pushing off his 99 or TT. Many players are probably folding JJ here (including me in some spots)... Podbelski, I totally agree on that flop line if I flat... |

16/13 is just the wrong villain for that. He is getting 3:7 against on your flop shove. He shouldn't be folding an overpair there. and b/f in his position would just be awful in a 3bet pot oop! I hope you could get away that time...but don''t do this again against 16/13. |
