Euh , why are you 3-betting 88 OOP? Just call his ridiculous minraise preflop and go for a set. Give up if you miss your set.

he was 4betting and yes it's a really bad 4bet with 88. I mean, what exactly are you hoping for when you 4bet 88 ? If he shoves, then what ? If he calls, there will always be overcards to your 88 and even with an overpair you could easily be behind a higher overpair. So the only time you will feel comfortable is when you flop a set. And you can do that much cheaper by just calling that minraise.

Thanks guys - I re-raised to try for the fold - it failed - I dumped on the flop. BAD play by me. I had one of those nights, played like a prat and came out break even. Lucky me

I would have called preflop and try to hit a set. Then, if you 4-bet preflop, I think you should c-bet nearly all flops. Otherwise, you're gonna lose the pot so often if he plays well in position.
