Default WSOP Main Event questions

I won a satellite to the WSOP Main Event. Has anyone gone? I've got a ton of questions about what day to start (1a,1b,1c,1d), types of players who play there, how to play against celebs/pros, pace of play, days/levels until make the $ etc, what hotel to stay at....

If anyone has any experience and wants to share some insights..... many thanks in advance.

Unless you are pretty well rolled or a very good MMT player i would advise you to try and sell your seat. The buyin is pretty expensive, and if you are playing stakes you are not really use to, you might be -EV here. If you can pocket the cash that would also be nice.

I don't have anything helpful, but congrats on winning the seat! I'd also probably try to sell it.

Well, I have rly no experience with tournys at all, but if you rly want to play the WSOP, I would try to play day 1a, since all fish are likely to want to play as soon as possible.
As far as I know, there should be a LOT of fish ^^

Against celebs I wouldn't chance my game, against pros you shouldn't make bluffs with a unlogical line, where you are not repping anything. Try to think on lvl 2 and think about the image they have of you... and try to mix up your range a little bit against them. If you only play with the nuts against a pro, he's likely to not pay you off.

Firstly, Congrats! Where did you win the seat? I have not played, but have done virtual rails with lots that have and one of the big differences is that most people are not used to true deep stack poker. With small blinds and big stacks and long levels, most people become impatient and end up doing stupid stuff that is not needed. To prepare for the mental issues of this, I would recommend playing some of the deepstack trny's on Stars just to try and get used to a similar structure, but it still isn't like the WSOP.

As far as what day to play, it's really personal preference. I'd likely want to play day 1b to watch a little bit on 1a and see the flow a little and then get my day in so I have a few days rest to fall back on. Playing poker ALL DAY is brutal and you need to get as much rest as possible.

Thanks you - I agree, especially the day 1a comments.

As for the posters who think I should sell my seat - what are you crazy?!?!? The biggest prize pool in poker? I dont know about you, but I cant dunk on LeBron, or drive farther then Tiger, or hommer off of Santana, but I can definitely felt the likes of Hellmuth or Matusow (may be not Durrr or Ivey). How do you turn that opportunity/experience down?

It would be cool to see/play with the poker celebrities, but getting $10k is pretty cool too.

u just have to weigh up what matters to you the most - experience and a chance at a massive pay day or a guaranteed $10k.... im a pretty impatient tourney player so i would be pretty torn as to what choice i would make.... maybe i could sell my seat for the main event and play one of the smaller events for the feel of it all.... i really dunno... i would play 1b tho if i were playing.... unless you want a higher chance to play with a pro i would avoid 1d.... they seem to come out on the last day imo....
