Default So, I wanna start learning PLO?

So, in addition to playing NLHE 6max, I want to learn to play PLO 6max, in order so I can mix my games up and not get so burnt out by playing NLHE too much.

Shoud I start by picking up Jeff Hwang's book? And then digest said material before going through the 6max tables?? Or is there any good basic starter material to start with?

Jefff Hwang is good, his 6-max book is great from what I hear as well, and there a lot of great pooh-bah posts on PLO on 2+2. If you read all of those, you'll be crushing micro stakes PLO. uPLO is so incredibly soft, omg, it's just unbelievable.

I second the recommendation for Jeff Hwang's book - get the first book first - the big play strategy. His second book is great, but it assumes you've read the first one. Reading the first one will give you a huge edge over the micro limits anyway, even short handed. I recommend playing a few hundred hands at stakes you can afford to lose (even play money or limit) because at first you'll inevitably make some hand reading errors! Good luck Warning- you may go off NLHE once you get the Omaha bug!

Just had to dredge this thread up, I'm already off the NLHE bandwagon and jumping into Omaha LOL

I'm still playing PLO pretty much exclusively, some FLO8 when I'm sleepy. Not playing much though and not really winning overall either so maybe my statement about the books giving you a "huge edge" was a bit optimistic.. I think it is true, but only if you can be disciplined and play a strong, sensible game continuously and not get too gambly or hasty, let your opponents be the ones who go on tilt

Zoe,
I could offer coaching for plo to you at a reasonable rate. Most of my winnings came from a site where poker tracker doesnt work but I can show you the cashouts Ive had to prove Im a winner... and my hard drive crashed so I lost my FTP data... but also cashed out positive there... Currently playing at UB with a 50BB/100 unsustainable winrate over about 2k hands... just started grinding again after my wife resigned to stay home with the baby.

PM if you are interested... We could work out a possible tip only first session and then go from there.

I am a consistent winner and could provide a couple references of people who have watched me play.
