Default From $100 to $1,000,000

I stole this idea from ShoveorFold, so my apologies, but I thought it would be a good idea to keep track of my Cake bankroll. I'm hoping the potential for humiliation will get me to concentrate on my game.

I'm pretty new to cash games, and generally stink or barely break even (and it's mostly stink). It's odd, b/c I tend to be a solid winner at low buy in SNGs ($10ish). I think I have a different view on the money in a cash game...which I know is wrong, but I can't shake it yet. It seems like my attitude is try to lose as little as possible more than it is to try and win as much as possible.

So I got $100 on Cake and decided to sit down at a couple of $4 max tables and did pretty well. I played pretty tight and was surprised at what people will call down/move in with...even though everyone keeps talking about it... Example hand below.
---
Cake Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.04 BB (6 handed) - Cake-Poker Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

Hero (BB) ($4.56)
UTG ($4.02)
MP ($0.76)
CO ($4)
Button ($4)
SB ($5.61)

Preflop: Hero is BB with ,
2 folds, CO (poster) checks, Button calls $0.04, SB calls $0.02, Hero raises to $0.16, 1 fold, Button calls $0.12, SB raises to $0.64, Hero raises to $1.96, 1 fold, SB calls $1.32

Flop: ($4.12) , , (2 players)
SB raises to $3.65 (All-In), Hero calls $2.60 (All-In)

Turn: ($9.32) (2 players, 2 all-in)

River: ($9.32) (2 players, 2 all-in)
---
He showed 9-7 suited. I could have played it wrong PF (and if you think so, feel free to elaborate). I may have played a little too tight at times, but I also didn't wind up with a lot of difficult post flop decisions (ie, playing KQ off from UTG, etc). Overall, I was mostly happy with the results. I have to keep telling myself that playing .02/.04 is not going to rake in hundreds of dollars in a session and try to look at the amount I have in relation to the blinds. We'll see how it goes.

Started: $100.00
Finished: $103.18
Time: 1 hour (halfway to minimum wage!)

It strange, I have the exact opposite problem with cash games and SNGs. I always try to play a FR SNG like a 6-max cash game and get eliminated pretty quickly.

Just keep playing tight and find the good tables (which are plentiful on cake) and you'll be at 10 NL in no time.

Thanks. I hope to live the good life of a $10NL high roller pretty soon.

I've never entirely understood the SNG success vs. Cash game failure. It doesn't make sense that I don't worry about the money when I buy into a $10 SNG, but if I buy into a $10 NL game, I spend a lot of time thinking about not letting my stack get below $9 (or some other arbitrary number) and playing the hands like I'm a little afraid. The other odd thing is that I think playing a couple of tables at a time might help b/c playing one, I tend to get bored and start looking around online, etc and not paying attention.

On another note...is there a table filter on cake like the one on Stars...and are there any 6 max $4 NL games that aren't turbos. I couldn't seem to find any, but would like to know for sure.

Played for another hour tonight with decent results (for me). Everything was pretty straightforward...nothing too out of the ordinary. I won a pretty big hand from the small blind with TP and FD (that hit on river) against a guy playing AJ (hearts..on an all black board).I'm still probably playing a little too tight, but I like the fact that I don't get many weird flop decisions. The problem I have, IMO, is putting someone on a range of hands. Especially at these limits b/c a lot of players will call a 4X pf raise with any A and most Kings (and a lot of Queens, for that matter), two suited cards and a lot of connecting cards. Anyway, crawl before you walk, I suppose.

Ended: $106.92

Dropped down a little tonight. I played a little looser and it seemed like I wasn't able to max my big hands and I lost a couple of decent sized hands when my Aces were cracked by Q9o and AK was beaten by A2s. Oh well, what can you do.

Started: $106.92

Played about an hour

Played for 2 hours again tonight and basically broke even. I started out losing, but came back. I was pretty card dead for a while, and then, of course, I donked off a decent amount of chips. I need to learn when to stop betting at pots and when the person I'm playing against either A) Has a hand or B) Doesn't really have much of a hand, but may have me beat and isn't laying their hand down. This costs me a fair amount of money.

Started: $103.46
Ended: $103.94

I hate the fact that Cake only has Turbos for the $4 NL. Sometimes, I want to think more than 5 seconds before I make a play.

if you need more time, play less tables.
Win at 2, then move to 4 and so on.
Doesn't matter how many tables you play, what matters is your decision in each spot.
But it will be really boring.
