Im looking for anyone else out there who can relate...I have watched the majority of the videos on this site. I play tight and very well. I could say i make atleast 95% of the same exact desicions Trikkur or lolTRICKEDu would make if they were playing. Unfortunately I keep losing and it's not because of my play really I am just the most unlucky person alive. I attack the fish making sure I have the better hand and I get sucked out on so much its almost become obvious that every big hand i get in will be me losing even though im ahead when i get my money in. This has been going on for weeks and I've taken breaks. I'm not asking for what to do because there is nothing i can do. I'll hit quads and get money then the next hand aces will lose to ace king to a big stack. I am just looking for input from people who may have been where I am now so I can see how you dealt with it |

don't know what to say other than variance sucks, but learn to deal with it and your game can continue to move on and up. I 100% guarantee that trikkur and loltrickedu (and every other successful, skilled player) have had downswings and terrible runs of cards and suckouts galore, just like you. it's just a part of poker that you have to learn to take in stride if you ever want to improve as a player. think about it this way...you WANT them to be calling you with that trash hand. if they happen to get lucky, take a deep breath and realize that you got your money in good, which is all you can do in poker. note that this doesn't mean putting in 3 bb's with aces pf then putting in 97 bb's postflop and complaining that you lost to 2pair, etc.

Post some hand histories. And tell us why you did what you did. We'll be the judge of how good you are! I thought I was good too when I first joined this site and was really confused why I lost all the time. (pssst... I wasn't very good at all) Last edited by nawhead; 01-14-2009 at 02:58 AM. |

I can relate goalee, I have had a 10 buyin and 14 buyin downswing (freaked the crap out of me) and then some smaller ones 4-5 buyins etc. most of it was just variance (its hard to avoid some tilt and bad play when you get crushed though) and meant that their was nothing I could do about it. ultimately, I reevaluated, regrouped, sighed and sat down and carried on. It has all come back now of course and the downswings look like blips on the chart. There is ALWAYS room for improvement (I find that I can start pushing small margins to much: might be ok at higher limits but at the lower limits its just spew for the most part) and their is always lower limits that can be played in most cases. At the moment I am going well but I know that another downswing will come, it has to. It cant always be an upswing (2 sides to every coin). Knowing, or assuming it will come helps to slow it in the first place though and helps me to keep a check on my play. As nawhead said: post hands, lets see what is going on. But please dont post bad-beats, post tricky spots and hands, hands where you were unsure. I am also betting that if you review your winning hands (AA, KK etc, sets and what not) with HEM or PT then you will see that you are winning the correct number of times (statistically speaking). And if you are but are not making money then maybe its review time (it is anyway since you are on a down swing). best of luck man. POST THOSE HANDS! |

How much have you played? If it's 5k hands or so and you're few (like 5-10) bins down, it can still be luck/variance, but with 40k losing hands on micros, you are a losing player. One thing I don't like about those micro stakes videos, is taking 3 streets of value with something like KQ on K-high board... Some players on micros are so passive that they might check-call all streets with something like two small pairs or TPTK... A lot of losing players tell it's all just bad luck (I know ones with 100k break even or slightly losing hands saying it...) but you really got to be honest yourself. You really should start reviewing a few biggest won/lost hands after each session you play. If you play 20k hands a month for example, you can have one losing week because of variance, but if you are losing after one month, you are a losing player. If you really thing you are losing waaay more than expected, check your EV vs. profit with some program, eg. PokerEV or Holdem Manager. I've had a 800 session running more than 4 buy-ins under the expected, but over long time, stats will get even. http://www.ginster.biz/winningpoker.jpg

Poker is a very humbling game. And everyone always thinks they are making the right decisions, or else why would they be making them? Thats why you have to post hand histories, get other people's views, and get coaching to see how bad you are truly playing. Any time anyone says they are simply unlucky, is just not true. I find that people at the uNL make so many excuses to why their winrate is so low, and i think making excuses can be attributed to that. Theres no way anyone can play perfect poker and still be be losing at micros. If you think you are making the right play 95% of the time, then the true number is probably lower than that, and that is still not good enough. You should constantly be working on your game. If you have a mental lapse for 5% (+/-) of the time, you could be donking off buyins during these times, and this would kill your winrate. |

thank you to the responses that actually focused on helping me or whatever... I did not post to whine i simply said i wanted to hear from other people who have been in the situation because i have bad nerves that may affect my play whne this stuff happens which i know is horrible and i have to get a hold of. And i did not mean i do 95 percent of things that trik would do but i meant that he would do in his video's. I doubt he plays as tight as he does in real life then he does in the videos explaining how to beat micro stakes
