I knew that this guy is very aggressiv and c/r flop often. However, I recently hear about overbetting as another weapon (cardrunner videos and stuff). However, I thought that it could make sens here against that aggro villain. It really did: he interpreted it as weakness or draw or whatever...don't know. overbetting made sense for me because I wanted to get it in as fast as possible. and if he c/r me, I'm gonna shove anyway. Glad that he shoved straight forward. After all, I'm sure that some of you might say I overplayed it, or it is not best line to get most value....I agree to some part. I just think that going with my read here, made the most part of it

Be careful when applying new concepts into your game since it is very easy to apply them incorrectly. Remember that "I saw a cardrunners pro do something like this" is not a good justification for a play In this exact situation it is very likely that your opponent's "standard" line is to C/raise with a ton of hands. Do you think an overbet is more likely to encourage those plays or discourage them ? If you think it is the former then your play is great but if it's the latter it is bad because we're losing a lot of potential value from his C/raise bluffs/semibluffs etc. he might even slowdown with his 9T. I'm pretty sure this opponent would make the same play with what he had regardless of your betsize so don't be so certain that your overbet actually induced anything Oh and gratz on the 200bb win |

However, I had a read and a feeling that this is a board that he will c/r very often - also with air. So as you say, probably betting 11 would do the same. But his c/r would be much smaller (like 25-35). I probably would have shoved over that and he still has a good chance to fold his hand. Since I made it 20, his c/r had to be more in the range of 50 - 65. If he really does that (what I expected), I can shove and he will be more or less committed. That he shoved by himself was just "luck". EDIT: Note about overbetting: Of course I didn't apply the concept like they showed in the video. In short, they suggested to overbet (sometimes) a board where villain cannot have a very strong hand - let's say he has Jx on a 34QJ3 Board. Hero has Ax type of hand. viallain called cbet and checks turn and river. It gives you the feeling that he wants to see a showndown. If you bet around 70% on the river, it's very likely you get looked up from time to time. Lets say you overbet river for 1.5x - 2.0x pot. He will not call you very often! Sometimes you do that with air, sometimes you do that with strong hands (if it even is necessary to balance). Now you can do the math...if you apply it correct, there will be a profit, even if you get caught once in a while.
