Default Nice overbetting line

Just played 10min 100NL rush, 2 tables.

This was my last hand:
mp opens,i call otb with AQo. Stacks ~110bb.

Flop is A97r
he checks,i bet 5 into 8.50. He quickly called. I've had a feeling that he wanted to bluffcatch wit an ace.

Turn is Q. No draws, all rainbow.
He checks.i could do a normal valuebet here, but i decided to overbet. I hoped my line looks bluffy and he keeps bluffcatching.
i bet 30 into 18.50. He thinks and calls.

River is 8
he checks, i time down and shove river.he SNAPPP called!i was like...wtf...he must have flopped a set...

No! AJo tried to bluffcatch!

Usually at these levels, overbetting is a bluff 90% off the time. I believe that was the key in this hand to double up in a more or less "marginal" spot.

Cheers

While people always say overbetting at unl is usually a bluff, my bluffcatch attempts even on relatively innocuous boards have almost always failed miserably.

yah i would think overbetting pots in hopes of bluff catching = disaster in the longrun. Most will not call you simply with Aj one pair........ More than likely 2 pair or sets are going to eat you alive.

I see what you say, but here I had top two.

and why should he check a set to me when he can see that I'm committed on river?

I like my line, because he is having a hard time folding an ace on the turn. he will fold a weak ace or non-ace hands of course. But I don't really care about those, cause they won't give me value for 3 streets.*
But if he holds something like A7-AK, he will probably call the overbet.
and because my line looks so bluffy on the river, he will try to bluffcatch enough times to make it work (I belive).

*I didn't do the maths, but I belive this line makes up for the value I loose from weak aces(because they fold turn). I might get a small river bet out of an A4 type of hand - but not much more. But if my line works- I stack up!
