ps: I made the video using Camstudio (free) and 1 other free software tool for conversion to .wmv and smaller filesize. If anyone is interested in it , i'll gladly explain it. Telling this because it seems alot of people (like me) are struggling with the end of the trial period of Camtasia (300$!!). I know the quality still isnt the best but you can change alot of settings so I'm sure I'll get it better next time.

After messing around with about a dozen different free encoders I found a process that works awesome. In fact I compared it with the compression with camtasia and for a 30min video it came out almost 20MB less(total was 55MB) than camtasia and the quality was every bit as good.

I made a video on how to make poker videos going over everything that you will need to know and where to get the programs and how to set them up, and posted it. You can view it here,

I know a lot of guys struggle with this using free stuff and it took a lot of trial and error on my part to get it right so I hope everyone enjoys.

ps: sry for the stupid question but what is the order we have to use the different programs?
1, record with camstudio
2, work with virtual dub
3, windows media encoder

Is this correct?
And after the setting everything right in virtual dub , what action do we choose to compress the video?
And after setting everything right in windows media encoder, what action do we choose to convert the video?

I will probalby find it out on my own but its easier when you just tell me

No problem. I was ready to commit suicide trying to figure out how to get it right. I downloaded and then had to uninstall about a dozen different programs for compressing videos. None of them even came close to this.

You only need to use Virtual dub if you want to edit the video. So if you like the video the way that it is, just go straight to windows media. The setting for Virtual dub that I laid out using the ffdshow H.264 and about 300-400bit rate is good for video and the lameMP3 is good for the audio. But I would just use the same compression as the Camstudio setting if you are going to put it into .wmv format. Trying to recompress something that has already been compressed a couple of times can effect the quality. Then take it into windows media.

After the settings in windows media just hit encode. The button that is to the right of the properties button.

I would love it if you did. I would like you to tell as many people as possible. I was thinking about pm'ing trikkur first though. This is not actual competition as it does not offer anything other than free hosting for streaming videos so I do not think that he would mind, but I do not want to do something that he would disapprove of.

where is the video?

After i pressed start encoding in windows media encoder, it stops encoding after awhile and what now? I didnt fill in a output directory or anything?
