Default getting Donked - your views

hi guys
saw your movies...they are great...loving them
but i realize from your videos that im allready a winning player...99% of the decisions you guys make im making the exact same moves...with a twist offcourse...everyone has his one style...but heres my Question / suggestion
last night at 50NL i lost 4 buyins in a row....not because i made a bad decision...but because the other player made a bad decision...and stays in the hand when he should fold...and ends up catching the miracle card...we all know these beats...we all get them...
but what i would like is a good look into your guys thought process, what happens in your heads when this happens...

like last night..i had A7 of spades in the big blind...1 limper and it folds to me

i decide to check , cus this guy tends to slow play alot...

flop comes A-7-4 rainbow....i bet out...see where i am....and he moves all in..without thinking....offcourse i call....he flips over 88..wich kinda surprised me...but he rivers the 3rd 8 offcourse...leaving me to the refill button and a long face...

this is the reason i struggle at the micro stakes....this is what i need to combat...

looking very much forward to hearing from you...

Ben.

Simply nothing more than variance. As you stated, we all face these kinds of suckouts and it all goes into the overall big picture. Another member put it out quite well that when you look at your % to win, the full pot is not rightfully yours.

Text results appended to pokerstove.txt

990 games 0.063 secs 15,714 games/sec

Board: Ac 7h 4s
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 91.010% 91.01% 00.00% 901 0.00 { As7s }
Hand 1: 08.990% 08.99% 00.00% 89 0.00 { 8d8h }

So in all reality, only 91% of this pot is yours and over 1000 times of the same situation, this is what you will average. The variance of the game will cause you to pull your hair out at times, but it is also why having the proper bankroll is very important.

Hope that helps.

Personally after a beat like that I just take a note on the guy and move on, happy that I got it in so good. I still cant shake off the habit of looking at my bankroll afterwards and trying to imagine "what would have been" But poker is about making the right decisions and letting the almighty Longrun do the rest. So dont let a few suckouts get to you. Just play the same winning poker and believe me, after a few sessions you won't even remember (or care) that you lost a buyin to a suckout. I know I don't.

No, that is not the reason you struggle. Let's say, that in 200NL not as much many people get their money in here with 88, but raise preflop, so you have to fold your A7s most of the time, cause you're oop and have a dominated hand, so you would lose your BB.
On 10NL you see a flop for free and get it in /w 2pair, where he will suckout 1/10 of the time, so you make A LOT of money in the longrun.

Imo many people like you struggle on the micros, cause many people suck out before the money is in the pot and they get paid of big /w their gutshot, so they had about the right implied odds to call on the flop...
