Question Diff question on BR Management

Scenario: I have been playing poker for several years but just now starting to get serious about online poker. I made my mind up a couple of weeks ago that I am going to grind out the micros instead of taking big shots. I deposited $30 then and after going through 5nl and currently on 10nl, I am now at $240.

Question: I am currently playing on Stars where we know there is no rakeback. Should I stay on Stars and grind it out until I reach $600 and move that to Full Tilt to take advantage of the deposit bonus? On the other hand, is rakeback on Full Tilt so significant that I need to move the $240 over now?

Hope this is clear.

How long did it take you to get to $240?

You want to take full advantage of your deposit bonus possibilities, so $600 would be preferable if that is the max amount that FT gives a bonus for, BUT, at 20 and 50NL, it us unlikely you would come close to clearing an entire $600 bonus anyway. You could make the move now and PROBABLY wouldn't miss out on any bonus because they clear so slowly. But, if you were to go on a tear and move up quickly through the limits, you could end up missing out. But technically you're missing out now.

Plus, there are other poker softwares with better rakeback that you can always jump on later and clear a bonus+rakeback like cake or PlayersOnly.

You should figure out what you want your end playing site to be. You know, a site where you are going to stay for the long term. Whatever their deposit bonus is, try to build your bankroll up to that amount. IN the mean time, you need to take the money out of pokerstars and deposit it at another site that has descent rakeback. Until you build up your bankroll, just take advantage of the "interrim" site rakeback and bonus.

It's taken me about 4 weeks to build it up, especially due to playing intoxicated a few times and hurting my roll, NEVER AGAIN!!

I'm not sure what I want my final site to be because I've only ever played PS seriously. If it matters I don't ever really want to go above 100nl so I need a site that is more micro player friendly in terms of rake back and bonuses.

Would it not be realisticly possible to clear a full $600 bonus in 3 months playing 6 tables at 10nl & 25nl, playing 20 hrs a week?

Anyhow, my account is up to $290 today, played for an hour or so. I hate missing the rakeback, but I want to be sure I can clear whatever bonus I can get playing micros once I move my money.

jtjohns,

one thing you might want to look into is what is the rake at stars compared to the rake at a site like Full Tilt or cake or anywhere else...

Someone can correct me if Im wrong but I think stars has one of the lowest rakes at 10NL...

Also if you really want the MAX deposit just add another $300, if thats possible, to your roll. Just dont use that into your BR calcs.

As an example I am currently clearing a Cake poker bonus (I deposited the full $600). After a couple weeks of play I did the calculations and came to the conclusion that I cannot clear more than $300 of the bonus in the 3 month period (if I stayed at 20NL). I was playing 8 tables of 20NL full ring on average of 20 hours a week. I had to leave on business for 2 weeks but I am now rolled for 50NL and will be making the move this week so hopefully I can start to clear the bonus a bit faster. With some luck and consistent profiting you can move up quickly and likely clear a better percentage of the bonus.

Cool update

just thought i would give you guys an update and ask another bit of advice. i cashed out my account on stars last night. relatively good success there, initially deposited 30 and cashed out 460. heres the question: i am putting the full 460 on full tilt, should i wait to get the echeck from stars or just go ahead and take it from my account now?

also, at what point do you feel it will be most beneficial to use pt3? also, would it be ok to start playing 25nl if i keep a threshold of 400? meaning, if i drop below 400 ill move back to 10nl.

I play using 24/22 BR management rules myself, move up at 24BI's and move back down below 22BI's (just dropped 3 BI's at 50NL last night which put me back below my 22BI threshold so I have some more work to do at 20NL tonight lol). I know it's nitty but the higher you go the more likely you are to tilt when you lose large BI's. I err on the safe side when it comes to my bankroll, at minimum I would play a 20/17 or 20/18. But its really whatever you are comfortable with, just make sure you stick by the rule you set for yourself.

And for what its worth I always wait for my check to arrive before depositing somewhere else, I am no baller so $600 would be a hefty hit if somethine went wrong.

quick update.... I just reached 30bi for 50nl but have yet to take a shot at 50nl. I plan on doing it soon but first I want to test a more lag style of play at 25nl.
