Default 100 NL: Tell villain that I 3 bet him light?

Do we want the villains to know that we 3 bet them light? Which particular villains do we want to know? I was just thinking that instead of playing this guessing game about whether the villain thinks that we are 3 betting him light, we just let him know by showing him 1 or 2 times, so that we can expect him to play back.

I guess this all comes into play more on sites that do not allow a HUD. They don't see your 3 betting percentage.

I guess we probably want them to know but we don't want them to have any idea what percentage of the time.

If a player can't figure out that you are 3 betting them lightly, why would you want them to know? Do you really want them playing back at you and 4betting lightly so you have to fold?

I think that is a bad idea. No need to let people know your ranges.

some villains play back at you poorly. I mean if you know with higher certainty when they play back at you & they are going to do it poorly, I don't think that it is always that bad.

The way that this came up is that I was in a pot where we were on the river & I was 90% sure that I had the best hand in a pot where I had 3 bet super light. I could have probably bet and got him to fold to not show my hand. I don't think it would have taken much of a bet either.

Unless you want to start doing stuff like 5bet bluffshoving (or shoving small PPs and such), there's really no way for you to exploit him playing back at you. Somebody not understanding that you are 3betting light a lot is the situation you want to be in!

In HU you can certainly get a lot of crazier preflop, so there might be some value in inducing him to adjust badly to our 3bets, but in 6max the hand ranges are generally so strong, that you don't feel too comfortable shoving suited connectors or small PPs over 4bets, even if you think that the villain is adjusting badly.

Just keep 3betting him a lot, but try not to overdo it (you can probably 3bet like 25% of the time against his pfr's, if it looks like he isn't adjusting). But if/when you have done that a few times and you get dealt hand like AQs or TT, you really should go with it and just assume/hope he's trying to play back at you.

I was watching my friend play nl100 some time back and I think this was one of his biggest leaks. He was playing very aggressive and 3betting a lot, but he was eg. 3bet-folding 88 from blinds against aggro regular's BTN open, which I think is a huge leak even at NL100. The villain was OMGHansLanda (if anybody here plays on ongame) who's probably one of the best regulars, 9-tabling smallstakes and playing ultra aggro, which makes me fistpump whenever I have a pair and he 4bets me.

(The games on ongame are 5-handed, so people are in general maybe getting it in a little lighter than at 6max)

Beware of lvling yourself
+ A villain, who can't figure out, that you are 3betting him light is alreay "playing back" very poorly. Do you really want him to 4bet-bluff from time to time? Isn't it way better, if he only defends with like... JJ+ and AQ+?
